BlueWaterIndexBot/1.0 is the web crawler operated by Blue Water Index Inc., a marine valuation company. It collects publicly listed boat-for-sale data — price, length, year, builder, location — to build statistical valuation models for the marine industry.

How it identifies itself

User-Agent: BlueWaterIndexBot/1.0 (marine valuation research crawler; +https://bluewaterindex.com/bot)

We send one stable User-Agent. We do not disguise the crawler as a web browser.

What it does

• Reads and honours robots.txt, including Crawl-delay.
• Requests pages slowly — a minimum of several seconds between requests to the same site, and longer where a site asks for longer.
• Fetches only public listing pages. It does not attempt to access anything behind a login, a paywall, or an anti-bot control, and it does not submit forms.
• Backs off immediately on 429 or 503.
• Stops entirely if a site starts refusing us, rather than working around the refusal.

How to block it

Add this to your robots.txt:

User-agent: BlueWaterIndexBot
Disallow: /

We will stop. You do not need to configure a firewall rule, and you do not need to email us first — though we would rather you did, in case there is a rate or a schedule that would work better for you.
